Hello from Alaska! We're excited to bring you this regular business update on a very irregular day (leap day!)
We're in Alaska!

Downtown Ketchikan looking north - this is right outside of our new apartment!

We are happy to announce that we have moved in to our new apartment in Ketchikan! We are excited to call Alaska's first city our new home. We've been spending the last few weeks getting settled, looking at boats, and meeting with some of our partners in the community. Keep an eye out for us if you are around downtown Ketchikan!
Anchorage Meetings

We've spent the last week of February in Anchorage for the Alaska Mariculture Conference, and to attend a session put on by NOAA as part of their work to develop an Aquaculture Opportunity Area in Alaska.
The Alaska Mariculture Conference is a two day event that brings together kelp and oyster growers, researchers, government regulators, and investors to discuss the state and future of the Alaskan mariculture industry. It's only day one of the conference but we've already made some great connections, learned a lot, had some amazing oysters, and are feeling even more optimistic about the future of Pacific Kelp Co. in Alaska!
Aquaculture Opportunity Areas are places that NOAA has identified that show high potential for commercial aquaculture activities. NOAA uses the best available science and stakeholder input to identify quality sites that have minimal conflicts with existing users. We were happy to provide our input to NOAA and we hope that NOAA will use this process to bring even greater support to the Alaskan aquaculture industry.
For those of you who are wondering about these terms: Aquaculture is farming things in water. Mariculture is farming things in the ocean.
Looking ahead
